If we focus on the here-and-now we might miss out on our blessings. Examples of living in the "right now" are seeking comfort instead of building character, wanting to be happy or fulfilling a desire instead of remaining holy, or wanting to enjoy your now instead of preparing for the future. Short term thinking keeps us from seeing what God is working on in our lives. Sometimes it is difficult to think long term in today's society because everything is based on instant gratification but we rob our future when we focus solely on enjoying today. Instead of going to that party maybe it is better to stay in and study. Instead of spending money on a pair of shoes or new clothing maybe put the money in your savings. Be careful not to get caught up in short term thinking. The race is not given to the swift, we must endure and stay on course. God has so much in store for us. Eliminate short term thinking and think about the reward we receive when we are steadfast.
In the Bible faith is defined as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. What exactly does that mean? Faith takes vision. Not the vision of sight but the vision of seeing things that aren't there, yet. When you apply for college, without thinking twice, you already see yourself in the school. That is vision. You see yourself wearing the school colors and taking classes even before you have been accepted. That takes faith. When you get a haircut or a new hairstyle, without thinking twice, you can see what you want in your head and you imagine the result even before the process begins. That is vision. You have faith it will turn out how you want. When you are clothes shopping, without thinking twice, you imagine yourself in the outfit. That is vision. You have faith that the outfit will look how you expect it to look. That same vision and faith should be applied to our spiritual life. We must visualize ourself being blessed, without thinking twice. If you want a new car, imagine you are already driving in that car. Every time you see it driving down the highway you should say and believe that the car is yours. Have faith. If you want a new job, already see yourself in that position. Have vision. When you have faith and vision you are propelling your life into the direction in which you desire. The mind is so powerful, what you believe, what you see, will begin to manifest. You have a choice to be blessed or not. Why would you choice not to be blessed? Everything you have right now came from your previous amounts of faith! Increase your faith level and see the increase in your life!
It is tough for us to realize that we are not fully in control of what happens in our life. But when we do understand that then we can begin to live a better life. In the bible Peter went fishing one night and did not catch anything for many hours. Peter then let Jesus on his boat and was told to cast out all his nets one more time. Peter reluctantly only casted out one net and caught so many fish that the net broke. The fact is that Peter did what Jesus told him to do and was blessed by doing so but couldn't receive the entire blessing because he didn't fully commit. What is God asking you to do? God wants to bless us the way he blessed Peter but we must not cast only one net. We have to let go our pride, stubbornness, and fear and we have to admit our way isn't working and fully buy in to what God is trying to do in our lives. We may be dealing with things that aren't getting better no matter how hard your work, such as, that boss at your job, that professor who seems to dislike you, having problems at home with your spouse or with your finances. We have to fully buy in and live the way God wants us to live and watch how he completely turns everything around in our favor. God's way is so much better than our way. We can't even imagine all he wants to do for us. We must buy in!
We are in a age of social media. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat lets us connect with thousands of people instantly. In some ways it is good and but also it can magnify our fears or insecurities. If you are on Instagram or snapchat and see a party going on or all of your friends are together without you, you may feel excluded, unloved, or unhappy. Your Facebook feed may be full of people getting engaged or having children but you are single and wondering why. Those things could make you feel insecure and fearful that your life isn't going the way you want it to go. You feel if you were invited to be with your friends then you would be happier but mostly that isn't true. No matter how sociable we try and be, sometimes it is best to be alone. Needing to be around people to be loved is a sign that there is something missing in your life. That something missing is Christ. When you have Christ in your heart you will never truly be alone. You will always have a presence with you. Once Christ is with you, He will bring the right people into your life that will help you grow and progress. Maybe you are alone right now because you need to spend time with nothing but your thoughts and learn yourself. Being around the wrong people will negatively impact your life and God is trying to shield you from it by making sure you are alone. Try spending some time alone today. Listen to your thoughts and pray for clarity in your life.
When negative things happen in life we wonder why? Why is this happening to me? The reason is because you can handle it. As a child when your parents would ask you to do something, instead of your siblings, you would ask the same question, why me? If you go and ask them they will say it is because they know their children and you were the one they felt who can handle it. God is the same way. He knows what you can and cannot deal with. He would not allow something to happen to you if you could not make it through. Instead of asking why me, you should ask what can I learn from this. You may see other people breezing through life but you are stronger than them, that is why you are being tested. The test is to make you stronger and for you to get prepared for something much better in life. God is not going to give you something until you are ready to receive it, similar to a trust fund. Most trust funds aren't accessible until the recipient is of a certain age, in which they are thought to be able to handle it. If you gave a 16 year old 5 millions dollars you can only imagine how that would play out. God is not in the business of giving out blessings to people who can't handle them, so he tests us and makes sure we are ready. That negative situation you are going through is a test. A test that is preparing you for a bright future. This is why you were chosen.
In life we worry about so many things. Our jobs, school, loans, debt, remaining healthy, and what others think about us. The definition of worry is, "to give way to anxiety or unease; allow one's mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles". We must understand that the mind is very powerful and what we think comes to past, so we must stop worrying. Worrying can be damaging to your life. It can lead to depression and other emotional and physical ailments. No good comes from worrying. Never has worrying about something helped solve it. It cannot and will not work. Worrying only magnifies the problem and lets it grow and corrupt your state of mind. That is no way to live. If you are on a high bridge with someone who is afraid of heights do you tell them to look down? No, you tell them to look forward and not to think about how high they are currently up. Just the thought of looking down gives them anxiety. The same is true in life. No matter what you are going through you must remain faithful and worry less about the issue and know that you will win. Even when a situation seems like there is no way out, you have to remain confident and know that you will prosper. Pray and ask God to help ease your mind and to help you stop worrying. Read 1 Peter 5:7.
In a world where internet sensations become celebrities overnight, everyone wants to achieve success instantly. Unfortunately that isn't a realistic dream. Taking one step forward daily is what we should set out to do. If you have your own business and today you had 5 customers and tomorrow you have 6 customers, that is progress. If you made $200 in one day and the next day you make $201, that is progress. If one day your boss corrects you on something and the next day you get a compliment for doing a good job, that is progress. If you made an 85 on your last exam and on the next you make an 86, that is progress. Any progress is good progress. As long as you are moving in the right direction, you are doing the right thing. We must not get discouraged by the lack of support or lack of recognition we are receiving. Not everyone is going to pat you on the back and hope for you to go good in life. Most people do not want you to do better than them so they will not support you. Do not let that stop your progress. Let it motivate you to continue. When your business begins to boom you'll see the wrong kind support coming from every direction. People will then try and use you to get a piece of your success. Those who truly care about you will show you the real support you need. Whatever you are doing make sure you are taking steps forward everyday so that you continue to advance your life, no matter the situation, no matter the amount of support you receive.
You drop your cellphone and crack the screen, you run out of gas while driving, someone makes a comment on social media that you do not like, are you going to react in a positive or negative way? The definition of positive is "a good, affirmative, or constructive quality or attribute." I found that interesting seeing that constructive means "serving a useful purpose." So no matter what happens we must see the positive in the situation and find a useful purpose. You might ask, well how does dropping my cellphone serve a purpose? Maybe the lesson is to pay more attention to details. After you drop your phone, in your mind you are now thinking, "I need to be more careful and take care of my belongings." What if your cellphone hypothetically is something important that you're carrying in your life. Everything is a lesson, the key is to see the positive in all things. Any situation can be flipped and turned into a constructive lesson. Instead of letting negative thoughts come into your mind you have to keep the thoughts positive. Also you must filter everything that you see, read, and hear. If all you read is negative comments online, if all you see is negative news being reported, if all you hear is negative people talking about other negative situations then what do you think will begin to come from you? We have to plant positivity in our lives. Would you plant things in your garden that won't grow or that will kill the things that do? The same goes for in your life. We have to stay away from negativity. Its like walking into a bakery. No matter what you do, when you leave you will smell like baking bread. Negativity will rub off on you the same way if you're around it for too long. Stay positive. Be positive. Even if you're in a negative situation right now, think positive and it will become positive.
It is very easy to be happy when everything is going well, when you have money in your account, food on your table, gas in your car, your spouse is happy, your kids are behaving, your grades are good. The key is to be happy even during a dark time. You failed a test, you lost your job, you are having martial problems, someone in your family is ill. Remain hopefully, remain positive, and only focus on the good things going on in your life. Always look for the bright spot in a situation. Struggle build faith. Complaining about something negative that happened will not help you in any way. When you feel like you want to complain just say, "God I thank you regardless of my current situation". Keep proclaiming that until the situation changes.
You heard that saying a lot as a child i'm sure, and it is still true to this day. We must treat everyone the same. Only showing love and support to successful people just so they show you some love back is fake love. That is what we see today. People become fake friends with successful people in the hopes that they get something in return. That is what Drake meant by, "I got fake people showing fake love to me". Meaning that people do not really love him but are only showing love just to receive something, whether that be money, status, or exposure. If you are an inspiring rapper, you should be the main person showing love to other inspiring artist because you know what they are going through. You never know who will blow up and who won't. That person who you thought would not go anywhere could be the next big time artist and could be the person that gets you where you want to me. You have to have love and support in your heart for everyone because you would want that same love and support from other people back. Putting those positive vibes out into the atmosphere is essential to your success. You can't not show people love and then be upset when no one is showing you love. You control the vibes you give and receive. Whichever side you are on, make show the love you're showing and receiving is genuine.
